Spread the blessed tidings all the world around;
Spread the joyful news wherever man is found;

Liedtext und Melodie: Philipp Paul Bliss (1838-1876) 

Im Winter 1869/70 hörte Philipp Bliss den englischen Prediger Henry Moorhouse eine Woche lang jeden Abend über den Vers Johannes 3, 16 sprechen:

„Also hat Gott die Welt geliebt, dass er seinen eingeborenen Sohn gab, auf dass alle, die an ihn glauben, nicht verloren gehen, sondern das ewige Leben haben.“

Die neue Sicht auf die Fülle und Freiheit, die sich aus Gottes Einladung im Evangelium für den Sünder eröffnet, die viele Christen in Chicago/Illinois in dieser Zeit erhielten, ist in Bliss‘ Lied trefflich ausgedrückt.
