Come, gracious spirit, heavenly Dove (Gould)

Come, gracious Spirit, heavenly dove
Written by: Simon Browne, 1720
Sung by: Altar of Praise Chorale

1) Come, gracious Spirit, heavenly dove,
With light and comfort from above,
Be thou our guardian, thou our guide;
O’er every thought and step preside,
O’er every thought and step preside 1).

2) The light of truth to us display
That we may know and choose thy way;
Plant holy fear in every heart
That we from God may ne’er depart,
That we from God may ne’er depart.

3) Lead us to holiness, the road
That we must take to dwell with God;
Lead us to Christ, the living Way,
Nor let us from His pastures stray,
Nor let us from His pastures stray.

4) Lead us to God, our final rest,
To be with Him forever blest;
Lead us to Heav’n, its bliss to share,
Fullness of joy forever there,
Fullness of joy forever there.

1) Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;
(2 Corinthians 10:5 KJV)

And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever; Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you. (John 14:16.17) KJV

Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.
(John 16:13 KJV)

And Now, My Soul, Another Year

Komm, gnäd’ger Geist, himmlische Taub‘,
Send‘ Licht und Trost von oben her,
Sei unser Schutz, und leite du
Jeden Gedanken, jeden Schritt,
Jeden Gedanken, jeden Schritt.

Das Licht der Wahrheit zeige uns,
Den Weg erkennen und zu geh’n.
Pflanz‘ heil’ge Furcht in jedes Herz,
Daß wir von Gott niemals wegseh’n,
Daß wir von Gott niemals wegseh’n,

Führ uns zur Heiligkeit, den Pfad
zu geh’n allzeit mit Gottes Rat.
Führ uns zu Jesus, unserm Weg:
Laß uns nie fliehen seine Weid‘,
Laß uns nie fliehen seine Weid‘.

Führ uns zu Gott, zur letzten Ruh‘,
bei ihm im ew’gen Segen steh’n.
Führ uns zur Himmelsseligkeit,
voll aller Freud‘, für immer dort,
voll aller Freud‘, für immer dort.

The Holy Ghost descended in a bodily shape like a dove upon Him.
Luke 3:2
